About the Chapter

A thriving chapter of some 35 members and 7 Priest Associates.

Our territory is on the East Coast of Suffolk and runs from Felixstowe in the South to Southwold in the North and stretches about 15 miles inland. We meet 9 or 10 times a year to sing the Office and Benediction in one of our 'major' towns (Ipswich, Felixstowe or Woodbridge) or one of the rural villages. In 1999 we were privileged to be invited to sing the office in the Chapel of the Royal Hospital School at Holbrook ( which was originally at Greenwich S.E. London before moving to Holbrook in 1930). The School was built based on the designs of those at Greenwich and overlooks the River Stour. The Chapel is in itself like a small Cathedral.

Some while ago we were invited to sing the Office in the Chapel  of the Ipswich and Suffolk Hospital. Whilst this was in progress someone opened the door and allowed incense to escape into the corridor. This activated the fire alarms - the Hospital ground to a halt and 4 appliances from the Suffolk Fire Brigade attended. The local Press subsequently carried a small report with the obvious headline 'Holy Smoke'. We have not been asked back again!

If anyone is visiting or holidaying in the area, they would be most welcome to join us. Contact the Secretary.
