Does anyone know the answer? Questions from Jefferey Eaves in the Spring 2007 Server magazine.
In regard to Round Churches, the Red Mount Chapel in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, although it is octagonal, was always known as the round chapel, when I was a mere strippling. It was a chapel built for
pilgrims on their way to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.
As to the Relic of the True Cross, the Relic that now resides at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, was a part of the piece that is in St. Magnus the Martyr, London Bridge and was donated by Father Fynnes-Clinton, who was
Incumbent at that time. It is in an aumbry in the east wall of the Lady Chapel, and can be venerated by prior arrangement with the Priest in charge the Reverend Phillip Warner.
Holy Trinity Hoxton also has a reputed Relic of the True Cross, which was authenticated by a French Bishop approximately 300 years ago and was used on Good Friday for Veneration of the Cross during the Liturgy.
As to other Shrines to Our Lady still operating, I have drawn a blank!! (or maybe the brain just isn't operating on all cylinders, well it is Holy Saturday, and it has been a long hard slog this Holy Week, and we have still got to put the Chruch back together ready for tonight!)
Hope this helps,
regards
David Fordham,
MC & Sacristan Holy Trinity Hoxton.
