Sanctuary
slippers were brought about in slum parishes in which servers had no
footwear of any kind because of absolute poverty. The Church charitably
provided what the servers could not otherwise have - for liturgical use. I
am not aware of any parish where the servers have no access to footwear of
any kind – although I am willing to be corrected. The ubiquitous
trainers are far from desirable, but they do serve the purpose. Sanctuary
slippers in the present context seem more than a little precious, unless
one happens to be involved in amateur dramatics or other theatricals - as
opposed to liturgy in praise of Almighty God. |

I suggest the enquirer tries a museum of footwear. The last such I saw in a church was in Saint Alban's, Royal Leamington Spa.............now closed........... |
