Dear friends,
I am the Secretary of a society that has S Osmund as patron. For his feast
Day on December 4th we are offering High Mass. The rite used is to be
Common Worship, Order One in contemporary language, with English Catholick
ceremonial.
His Feast Day does not even feature in the Common Worship Kalendar, although his
Translation may be celebrated on July 16th. Does anybody know if there are
propers for his Feast in the Sarum or York Missal, and if not, where I may
obtain details of the Common of Confessor Bishops from the same?
I have googled, but have found very little, I'm afraid to say, as I do not think
that either missal is available online. The pre VatII rite offers that
hotchpotch pick'n'mix of Ecclesiasticus 44 and 45 as the Epistle for such
feasts, but I would prefer to keep in tradition with the Use that S Osmund
compiled for us.
If anybody can help, I would be most grateful.
Yours in Christ,
Michael P D Johnson

If the Manchester Church looks in the back
page of The Weekday Missal he will find most contingencies are covered for miscelleneous saints, martyrs et all page 1853, generally adapt the collect to incorporate a short life precis of the saint together with the general for saints.

I
looked this morning in a 1912 edition of the Sarum Missal, however, there
is no proper for him there, only that in the common Bishop-Confessors, so
I can only assume that there does not exist a
proper Mass for him. That proper, though was almost identical to that in
the English Missal (personally speaking, that is much more trust worthy
than anything Rome, or the Liturgical Commission can throw out)
