National Guild Office Day
Suggestion from Councillor Terry Doughty
|
31/12/02 I thought it might be a worthwhile to set a certain day each year as National Guild Office Day. All chapters would be encouraged to meet on that day and sing the Office at a set time. I believe this would help us to feel more part of the Guild, knowing that members all over the country (or even the world) were worshipping the same way and at the same time. There are some members who are unable to attend the National Festivals for one reason or another, this would be a way for them to join in spirit with fellow members. What do you think? |

I would like to suggest a modification to the proposal and suggest a Guild Week. This would permit servers around to the world to join in. (The sun that bids us rest... is waking our Brethren neath the Western skies). I would also like to propose that the week in which Corpus Christi falls could be appropriate as most servers would attend Mass on that day. It also offers the advantage of a moveable feast allowing chapters that may not normally have their full office in one particular year to make it a special event when their turn arises. David Froud |

I agree with Cllr David, I think a week would be by far the better option. BUT Chapter Secretary's will need to know asap the proposed dates for fixing their 2004 programmes. |

As an extension to A Guild Office Day, would it not be more in keeping for The Guild to have an annual pilgrimage to Walsingham. |

Can I suggest, as I have done elsewhere, that this be encouraged to be an ecumenical celebration with servers of the Roman and Orthodox traditions invited to participate....'that we all might be one...'. Eddie Bestwick |
