I think we bought white girdles, in various lengths from a firm from the north of England..... was it J + S Sewing Services? I want to buy some more, but the firm seem to have disappeared, or else I'm not looking in the right place. OR does anyone know where we can buy girdles of different [particularly shorter] lengths?

I regret I am unable to help, the correct name for the rope. used . known as a girdle is a CINCTURE.

They are most definitely still in business as they made the Guild concelebration vestments a couple of years ago. You could also try Vanpoulles in Crawley (http://www.vanpoulles.co.uk/), F.A. There are, of course, many suppliers of such things, but these may give you a staring point in your search.
