Book - Being a Server today

25/2/06

An excellent book which I haven't read all the way through but a quickish glance seems to indicate that the Guild is not mentioned as a source of help or information. The form of admission of a server looks slightly familiar but it seems a pity that the Guild seems not to appear. I now wait for somebody to tell me to get a new pair of glasses!

With regard to the book you are proclaiming, could we please have the relevant details so that we can obtain a copy (or copies). The ISBN would be the best details, but the Author and Publisher would also be useful.

It appears that there are a number of reasonable books on serving around and additionally many churches produce their own material. I think it would be really good if the GSS were to produce its own definitive text. The GSS could commission the work from an experienced liturgist, or maybe there is sufficient combined knowledge within the guild to produce a really good guide to serving in house. Either way, this would be an opportunity for us to provide something to the wider church and help to re-establish the GSS as THE society for Anglican altar servers. Providing it was contemporary and based on good catholic practice, it should achieve wide acceptance and help to standardise serving practice. It would certainly test our commitment to liturgical renewal, if nothing else.
