High Mass Liturgy
In the Tridentine Solemn High Mass, why do the sacred ministers line up behind one another at a diagonal to the altar, only at the Kyries?

I have an additional question about the Tridentine (Latin) Solemn High Mass rite.
Why does the Subdeacon hold the paten, away from the altar, from the offertory until the Lord's Prayer?
I was told, years ago, by Fr. E. C. R. Lamburn, author of Ritual Notes, that it symbolized a historical situation, when the paten was much larger than it is now and the altar was so full of offertory gifts, of kind, that there was no room for the paten until it was required by the celebrant, for the liturgy.
I have Googled for this explanation without results. Can anyone help me with this, please? As a lifelong lay minister of the High Church Anglican Church, I seek to know the origins or symbolisms of our liturgy, if only to refute those critics who may argue it to be just "meaningless nonsense". At age 73, I still serve as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and follow my childhood traditions to respect what goes on, in the Sanctuary, with reverence.
