Ken Reed was born 19th March 1919 in
Elm Grove, Walton-on-Thames. He attended Sunday School at the age of
5 years and joined Oatlands church as a choir boy at the age of 9 becoming part of the Guild of Saint Nicholas in
1927. He went on to be confirmed and was made a member of the Guild of Servants of the Sanctuary at
Laleham Abbey on 5th June 1956. He became a server at St Mary's and then an assistant at Holy Communion as
well as Verger for many years. On the 13th April 2006 Ken was presented with the special 'Maundy money' by
the Queen at a service at Guildford Cathedral (see picture) in recognition of his service to his church. He
was able to do the thing most dear to him on 7th December by going to Sunday morning service and
on 8th December 2008, peacefully passed away.
