Roy was an excellent Secretary General of the GSS who brought the records and management of the Guild to a high standard.
Under his guidance we are most grateful for his management and organisation, especially the Lichfield Festival and Glastonbury. Whoever succeeds him will appreciate his organisation and administrative ability that will make their job easier.
I wonder whether it would be possible to change this years Lichfield Diocesan Festival to a service of remembrance and thanks for a true servant of The Guild.
Terry Delaney

With sincere condolences and assurance of prayers for the soul of Roy Cresswell and for his family and friends.
From the Lay Servers Council of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nottingham.

On behalf of the Chapter of St.Laurence the Deacon, Reading, I should like to express our great sadness at the news of Roy Cresswell's death. I am sure we were all hoping that he would recover from his illness. We hasten to send sincere sympathy in this bereavement to his family, to you and to all his friends. He certainly will be greatly missed.
Elizabeth Field (Chapter Secretary)

Roy worked so hard for the Guild, not only as Secretary-General, but also as a Group Councillor and Organiser of the Lichfield Festival for many years and even when he moved into his eighties! He loved the Guild so dearly and he will be greatly missed by all members.
May he be counted worthy to be numbered among the blessed ones who worship at the golden altar before God's throne.
JESU MERCY, MARY PRAY - - - - - MAY HE REST IN PEACE AND RISE IN GLORY
Craig Aburn Councillor for LG5&6

I remember first meeting Roy when I arrived early for the Lichfield Festival which he has organised for over 40 years. He was busy preparing for the festival but he made time to speak to me and make me welcome. Since then we became very good friends and he was always extremely helpful in advising me on any Guild matters.
When I was elected councillor he was most encouraging and welcomed me to the General Council with great delight.
Although he knew nothing of computers and the Internet, he supported me when I set up the Guild web site.
Unfortunately, last December, Roy underwent 2 major operations and it was necessary for someone to take on the day to day admin of the Guild, which I offered to undertake. Roy was happy with this arrangement. Recently as his health seemed to be improving he began to take more interest in the Guild and was organising the Festivals at Stafford and Liverpool Cathedral. I spoke to him a few days before his death  A day or two after I received the handbills for the Festivals – he enjoyed printing the handbills.
We will miss him so much – his sense of humour and his loyalty to the Faith. We will miss the Lichfield Festival which he organised so well for over 40 years – it broke his heart when the powers that be at Lichfield Cathedral made it impossible to continue holding the Festival there (I believe this contributed a great deal to his illness).
Our sympathy and condolences to his wife, Maud and family.

Terry Doughty Area Councillor PG15
MAY HE REST IN PEACE AND RISE IN GLORY.

It was with great sadness that the Portsmouth Chapter learnt of the death of Roy. We were highly delighted when both he and Fr Michael attended our Centenary Festival two years ago. Roy was a gentleman, and friend to all, never too busy to give of his time and expertise. I know we shall greatly miss him in the Guild and his dry wit at Council Meetings. The condolences of the Portsmouth, Chichester and Bognor, Winchester and Isle of Wight Chapters go to his widow and family.

May he find the peace and happiness he deserves serving at the altar of God and we pray that Our Lord looks down on those who mourn and he sends comfort his family and those he loved.

Peter Keat Councillor PG4

The chapters in group PG10 join me in expressing thanks and gratitude for the life and work of Roy Cresswell. A firm but fair Secretary-General who gave valiant service to the Guild. He was always pleased to see any members of the guild and would spare time to stop and greet them. Two of his last duties, before Roy went into hospital, were to authorise the admission of a new Probationer and a Priest-Associate. They will remember him for those actions. May he rest in peace and rise in Glory. Amen

David Froud Councillor PG10

The members of the Chapter of the Holy Nativity, Devon wish to record their thanks to Roy for all his help and assistance. May he rest in peace.

Ian Radford Chapter Secretary.

The Guild has much to thank Roy for, myself I shall remember the welcome and support he gave to a new 'boy' on General Council. But even more so for his good, solid, common-sense way of dealing with Guild business, a straight forward question received an honest answer.

Andrew R Mays Group Councillor PG21

From St Paul's Church (Rotherham Chapter) We send our most sincere condolences to the Cresswell Family on their sad loss. Roy will be greatly missed by many people and for his good works for the Guild of Servants.

We shall all miss Roy who over the years has been a steadfast Secretary General of The Guild and kept the membership records organised and up to date.
We will also miss his flair and organisation of the Lichfield Festival which so many of us supported, whoever takes over from him will have a hard act to follow!
We remember him with love and gratitude may Our Lord welcome him into his heaven he can can meet all our old friends who have gone before and ask wheher their subs are paid.

He is being remembered on our list of the departed at each Mass.

The Chapter of St.Cedd (PG13/28) all join with me in expressing our sincere condolences to the Cresswell family on the loss of Roy.
I have only recently had dealings with Roy, when I was elected Chapter Secretary a couple of years ago. He was always on hand to provide answers to those queries that crop up from time-to-time, and to deal with the innumerable forms that go with the process of initiating probationers and new members.
Nothing was too much trouble for him, and he will certainly be missed by the Guild.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Nicholas Pond Secretary Chapter of St.Cedd {PG13/28} - Guild of Sevants of the Sanctuary

May I on behalf of the Chapter of Our Lady of Willesden and St Mellitus add our sincere sympathy and prayers to Roy's family in their sad loss. The Guild will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

David M Callender, Chapter Secretary

I will remember Roy with great fondness, he always had a word with everyone. On Monday our local chapter (The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Telford) we had our monthly meeting of the Guild at Worfield, in Shropshire. This being the nearest point that we go towards where Roy lived. At that meeting we would always see Roy, he would come along and give us his encouragement and support. He was sadly missed last Monday.

I send on to his family my thoughts and prayer at this sad time, I pray that Roy may rest in peace and rise in glory.

Malcolm Griffiths, BVM Telford

Roy was a great friend who I first met at a Festival in Coventry. It was a great privilege to know him and he always made our chapter very welcome at Lichfield. I was very priviliged to be asked by Roy to read at the last Lichfield Festival. He was always very friendly to everyone and will be very sadly missed.

From David Goldberg and Chapter Members of St Hugh and Blessed Edward King, Grimsby, PG18/25

In all the years that Bro Roy was Secretary General he had that enthusing for the job that he did and made the Guild much more modern in terms of admin and it's general view. Bro Roy gave total service which is so very rare, he was always happy to offer guidance to young chapter officers, always prepared to talk an issue over. He never cut anyone short because he had a job to do, but gave you wholly undivided attention, meticulous to detail in all he did. His arranging of festivals was superb and Bro Roy will be sorely missed for all these qualities. Bro Roy was a patient and kind man who the Guild will miss for Bro Roy went all over the country. From my own Chapter of Our Lady Of Walsingham and St. Alban LG2/148 we shall surely be the richer for knowing you and the sadder for hearing of your passing into glory.

Mark Wilson Chapter Secretary.

On behalf of all members of the Chapter of the Epiphany I would like to record our deep sadness on the passing of Roy Cresswell, and extend our condolences to his family and friends. On my visits to the G.S.S. Festivals I was always impressed by his enthusiasm and faith in The Guild, his cheerful greeting to those he met will be greatly missed.

David G. Rumsby
